Default Lower-level arenas and the Snowball Fights

I'm bringing this old issue up again--sorry everyone if it seems so redundant, but we do have lots of new players now, GW I'm sure was given to a lot of people as a Christmas present.

The Ascalon and Yak's Bend arenas are still full of the twinked players using elite skills and max armor. Some of you out there complained that this was "too much code" to change and "too complicated" for ANet to fix.

To that, I give you the snowball fights. ANet somehow went through the trouble to put everyone's armor, health, whatever, at the appropriate level--all for an event that will go away in a few days? Imagine how the same concept could fix the lower-level arenas once and for all.

Here's the rough idea:

ANet could compile a list of all the skills that can be had from Ascalon City to Serenity Temple to Grendich Courthouse. When you enter Ascalon arena, whether or not you have completed the quests/bought the skills for your primary and secondary professions, you automatically have these skills available to you...and ONLY those skills. Armor is all set to Ascalon City level (but of course doesn't change looks). Obviously everything resets to its "real" level once you exit the arena.

Everyone repeats the phrase "skill over time played." We all know that getting run somewhere requires a substantial amount of time played: first, to realize that getting run is a possibility; second, to have earned the money to buy the armor/signets of capture or made friends who will run you. It's not about REAL skill one bit. (Although the twinkies are convinced it is and do not hesitate to rub your face in it.)

I have been and still am baffled by ANet's refusal to fix the problem. For a game that strives so hard for balance, the imbalance in the lower-level arenas is a huge disgrace.

[Please, I beg you, do not tell me just to stay out of the lower-level arenas. The issue is bigger than that, and you know it. These twinkies will one day be level 20 and playing on my random CA team. Will they be prepared? No, they've been crippled by their unfair and cowardly advantages early on. And the potentially good players will have been scared off by getting drained by Life Transfer or sliced up with Illusionary Weaponry or whatever.]

So what if they are crippled, just means you can spank them quite nicely.

Me too. It's shocking that Anet has been turning a blind eye to such an obvious problem for so long.

I imagine it's a very low priority. Not many people play exclusively in low level arenas after all. PvP is associated with Tombs and the Southern LA Tournament Arenas, so the effort is wasted when they could be working on something else.

Still, a few people could be having their first few experiences of PvP in these lower-level arenas. Not exactly the best introduction to PvP at the moment.

True, but short-sighted on ANet's part. New player starts game, wanders through Pre, does the Pre->Post PvP arena, decides this is kinda fun, wanders into the Ascalon arena, gets wiped in under 5 seconds by somebody in 1.5k armour, a max damage weapon, and late-game skills.

New player decides this was bad luck/their newness, and tries again. Same thing happens. Three or four tries later, new player decides GW's PvP is teh suxx0r and gives up on it.

If you're seriously arguing that a new player (not new character; new player) can "easily counter anyone with elite skills and armor (sic)" then either the word "easily" means something entirely different in your language than it does in English or I need to get your dealer's number, because that's some truly fine stuff you've been smoking.

I hope this was meant to be sarcastic, because otherwise... just stop posting.

I agree, you CAN beat someone with these advantages... if you happen to have just exactly the right build.

IF the advantages mean nothing, then take them away and see who wins in a fair fight. That's all.

What if I'm beating on a warrior and doing -1 damage to him, and he's doing Eviscerate or whatever and I'm down in 2 hits? Where's the counter there? In your wisdom, what would you suggest for that? Think... think... think...

And Plague, what sort of effort/priority did they put into developing the snowball fights? For an event that will not last probably past New Year's? You don't seriously believe they couldn't fix this much more permanent problem if they wanted?

The snowball fights were to be FUN and available for everyone. Regular PvP at lower levels is currently not terribly fun, but I do enjoy getting the experience. However, even when I get on a team with other twinkies and get 20 wins, I feel cheated, and I feel like a cheater.

It's just so LAME.

*Sigh* My bad. But I have seen that argument many times, and uttered with complete sincerity ... "You just have to be a better player to beat someone with max everything while you're using Ascalon armor and presearing weapons."

(Hehe, I'm using a very nice presearing longbow for my Mo/W because it doesn't have any requirement - keep getting funny looks about it!)

For me, it's a matter of pride. For the twinkies, it's a matter of false sense of superiority.

I agree, ANet doesn't wish to fix this. I just wanted to bring it up again for the "benefit" of new players to GW....but they're not responding to the thread, they're out getting run to Droknar's.
